Sex, With Strangers

What a difference a comma makes?

Coming soon, I’ll post a link to it later: Sex, with Strangers. My first serial project.

New Piece

24 03 2008

I started writing a short story called “Silence.” The original idea I had for it will not be mentioned here. However, I am writing fiercely. I hope to get some opinions from the few net of writers I know.

The Ennui Files, Gibberish News & Other Thoughts

11 03 2008

I suppose a few, and only a small few of you, know that Ennui Files has been set up by me some time last month because I had an idea that turned out to be a brain fart. However, I’ve come to the decision that I should use it nonetheless for writing, creative writing, namely Ekphrasis poetry, prose and their bastard child, prose poem. Where am I going to get my art from? Flickr, of course - it will either be linked to the photo, blogged into the post, or whatever I can come up with, however, full credit for the artwork will go to the photographer and if they ask for the image to be removed, I will gladly oblige. I’ve started on one piece already, but haven’t really gone into it much because of this head that I’ve had all day.

With that being said, I think it would be unfair of me to use it on my own. So I’ve added Jenndiggity and Philosopher in Theory into the mix, hopefully they will be allowed to post. whenever they get inspiration to do so. I will also allow other users to contribute if they’d like to as well, as long as they have a wordpress account and swear by whatever they believe in that they won’t put up crap - I will be the sole judge of that, by the way. If interested, just send me your wordpress e-mail address and I’ll hook you up.

I just want to build a community of writers that want to show off their skills. And just because I choose to write Ekphrasis pieces, doesn’t mean you’re all bound to my decision. Write what you want as long as it’s tasteful and not overtly preachy - which, I don’t expect Jenn and Philosopher to do something overtly preachy.

Also, if you like what you read and want someone covering Ekphrasis writing to create something with your photo, feel free to link it.

On to the next subject:

My brother, Gibberish News, has set up an account. He’s new at this so bear with him until I show him the little skills needed to capture an audience. He’s a striving comic writer who just wants to share the news with a more humorous tone.

Well, tomorrow’s hump day and this Friday’s March 14th and we know what that means. I’ll have a few sex posts for tomorrow, hopefully.

POV

29 02 2008

I having problems with my point of view in a short story I’m writing. Because none of my first person narratives ever contain Spanish (because most of my characters are based on my generation), I normally write “Chicano” lit in the third person. Third person always gets a little out of hand with me in the sense that I overly describe a scene, or I don’t do enough. I know I should really wait until I’m finished before I start pondering the whole first person/third person idea, but the story’s already flailing in the wind and the characters are warped versions of what they were meant to be in the first place.

The premise of the story, the plot, I suppose, can be summarize as a man begins to reevaluate his affair after discovering the body of a two year boy floating in the Rio Grande. I was doing all right, for a rough draft, getting down all the details of his discovery and the aftermath, but when describing the origin of his affair, well I’m having a little difficulty letting go of too much description–remember what Poe said about short stories, something something something “not to exceed in length what might be perused in an hour…” something something something—as you can see, that’s probably not the quote I originally wanted to use, but if you know it, feel free to tell me down below.

Now people, I want this to be a short story not anything longer because it shouldn’t be longer than the 25 pages. There isn’t enough history to gain from the idea. In fact, this is only a slice of life in La Colonia, a fictional town based on a very real idea.

I’m sorry; I’m a mess right now. The meds have now polluted my mind and slowing down whatever I was going.

If any writers find this post, please help me out. Should I stick to what I’m doing right now, third person? Or switch over to the first person?

My Autobiography as Christ

22 02 2008

I’ve started writing poetry again. It’s been about a year or so since I seriously wrote poetry, but after last semester’s creative writing course, I decided it was high time that I start writing again. I’ll be experimental, crossing hairs with poetry and prose poetry (perhaps some flash fiction shoved in there).

I’m not sure what I’ll call it when I’m done, but I’ll worry about that at the end. So far the pieces that have been written (and are in the process of being edited) are “Evidence,” a piece of Ekphrasis prose poetry, and it’s sister “Father, Son, Holy Spirit.” Both pieces are based on Marilyn Manson’s artwork (”Someone should put hearts over her eyes” and “Trismegistus“). However, are not tied in anyway to the portraits. They brought out memories of sex with our love and being raised Catholic.

I suppose the whole tie in would be my life as Christ (oh good lord, he’s being blasphemous–I say get used to it!).  My life is on a runaway train and I need to sit down and write something before my mind explodes with all the shit I’ve been reading.

The poetry will be factual, but told in slant.  I want to do this and make it my project to work on for the rest of the year. Hopefully after all the shit I’ll write, I’ll have at least twenty good pieces of poems, ten good prose poems, and one or two flash fiction. After that, I’ll sort them out and see what goes and what doesn’t. I’d also like to publish it online, rather than have a hard copy, but that’ll be much later on. I’ll have to find someone who is good with Flash and then we’ll see. Not only that, but have to find a reviewer/editor and work closely with them before I make a fool of myself for all to see.

I’ll post a few rough drafts here as .jpgs, but we’ll see.
